Dupen Sydney Mattress: 7-zone pocket springs, 35 cm and two identical sides so it can be turned
The Sydney is the model that Dupen places at the very top of its pocket spring range. It is not a spring mattress with a layer of memory foam on top: it is a block in which the manufacturer fits five materials inside the core and repeats exactly the same padding on top and underneath. That symmetry is what allows it to be turned without losing performance, and is also the reason for its six embroidered handles: a mattress like this is heavy, and without handles nobody could turn it.
The material that defines it is HRQ, a foam with high resilience that goes in both top panels, beneath the fabric and the fibre: it is the layer that relieves pressure and springs back into shape as soon as you move. Underneath, the Energex™, Dupen's energetic memory foam, and a second high-density memory foam. And in the centre, the Pocket Tech Box: the block of pocket springs with 7 firmness zones and perimeter reinforcement, protected between two high-density Airdream® cores.
How it's made, layer by layer
This is the composition Dupen states in the model's official technical datasheet, and what each layer gives you when you lie down:
| Zone | Materials | What it gives you |
|---|---|---|
| Top panel | Grand Luxury stretch fabric High-density graphene memory foam Hypoallergenic fibre HRQ | The fabric is stretchy and breathable, with anti-dust-mite treatment. Underneath, the graphene memory foam and the fibre give the soft touch feel, and the HRQ relieves pressure and springs back into shape without leaving a gap. |
| Core | Energex™ energetic memory foam High-density memory foam High-density Airdream® core Pocket Tech Box: pocket springs, 7 firmness zones and perimeter reinforcement High-density Airdream® core | The two memory foam layers spread the weight across the shoulders, hips and lower back. The pocket spring block works zone by zone: it gives more support where you load it more, and gives way where needed. Because each spring sits in its own pocket, movement from the other side of the bed does not reach you. The perimeter reinforcement is what stops the edge from giving way when you sit down, and it is what lets you use the full width of the mattress. |
| Bottom panel | HRQ Hypoallergenic fibre High-density graphene memory foam Grand Luxury stretch fabric | Identical to the top one. That is why the Sydney can be turned, and the underside performs just as well as the top. |

The details you can't see
- Double-sided mattress. It is used on both sides. Turning it fairly regularly spreads out the settling of the padding and extends the mattress's life.
- Six embroidered handles. They are not just decoration: they are what makes turning it manageable between two people.
- Side panels filled with hypoallergenic fibre. The side bands are not hollow, they are padded, with cushioned sides and reinforced corners.
- Springs with double heat treatment and 55% recycled steel. The anti-corrosion treatment is what underpins the long warranty Dupen gives this model.
- Manufacturer's warranty of up to 10 years. It's worth knowing how it works: Dupen covers 2 full years and, from the third year onwards, the additional part is prorated at 12.5% a year on the invoice amount. These are the manufacturer's official terms, and we would rather you knew them before buying than after.
- Spanish manufacturer. Dupen has been making mattresses in Spain since 1966. The Sydney is made to order in the size you choose.
Is this the mattress you're looking for?
It's a good fit if you want medium firmness with cradling — where the mattress gives at the shoulder and hip but holds your back — if two of you sleep in it and one moves around a lot, if you are different weights, or if the mattress you have now has sagged at the edge.
It's not for you if you want a board-like feel, or if you want a light mattress that is easy to move on your own.
A word of warning before you buy: measure the clear height of your ottoman bed, base or bed frame. With this mattress the whole set-up gets quite a bit higher, and there are some structures it does not suit. If you are not sure about yours, call us and we will check it with you before you order anything.
